Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala Wins Women FA Cup with Arsenal

Nigerian women football international Asisat Oshoala has won her first piece of silverware at Arsenal Ladies after they beat Chelsea 1-0 to win the Women’s FA Cup trophy on Saturday. Danielle Carter got the decisive goal at Wembley Stadium to secure a 14th cup triumph for the gunners, who were simply too good for the cup holders on the night.

Carter, who clipped a first-minute chance onto the roof of the net, broke the deadlock with a superb solo goal and finish that turned out to be the winner in a game that had numerous chances.
Oshoala, who has put in a number of decent shifts for Pedro Losa’s side since switching from Liverpool in March, then spurned three good chances to put Arsenal out of sight.
Fran Kirby wasted Chelsea’s best opening in front of a record Women’s FA Cup final crowd of 32,912.
The England striker lacked direction with her first-half strike after running through, allowing goalkeeper Sari Van Veenendaal to save at the near post.
Ji So-Yun also went close after the break for Chelsea, shooting wide following their first corner after 70 minutes but the Gunners were excellent value for the victory.
